Zachary's Services

Created by Zachary's folks 11 years ago
Zachary is currently in the village at G & L Evans Funeral Directors in their chapel of rest under the great care of Jeremy (Jem) Mead. We have been able to spend a bit more time with him there. Anyone, including children, babies and bumps, who would like to come to either Zachary’s funeral – the more poignant service to us as we will both speak about Zachary – or burial or both is most welcome and we would be pleased to see you. Funeral Zachary’s Funeral is on Tuesday 7th May 2013 at 11.30am at Wroughton Parish Church conducted by Michael Johnson (the vicar who married us). Address: Church Hill, Wroughton, Wiltshire, SN4 9JS. We will accompany Zachary up to the church in a baby hearse. After the funeral Zachary will be going back with Jem for the night (we will be staying in the Fox and Hounds pub in the village) and then the three of us will travel to Hemel Hempstead on the Wednesday morning. Anyone who would like to join us for refreshments at Legge House (opposite the church and where we had our wedding reception) after the funeral is most welcome. We can stay in Legge House as long as we like and hope that family and friends will use it as a chance to catch up with us and others. Information There is no dress code – please wear whatever you feel comfortable in (we are happy with coloured clothing, casual wear and jeans). Our preference is for donations (full information below) instead of flowers please however if you would like to bring flowers, teddies, or anything else then that is fine and Zachary will be pleased to have them. Parking is available at the church, Legge House and also the Fox and Hounds pub (Address: Markham Road, Wroughton, Wiltshire SN4 9JT). The pub currently does not open in the day therefore are happy for us to use their car park. There are toilets available in Legge House before the service or there is a single toilet in the church car park. If you have travelled from afar or arrived early then the Honey Pot Cafe in the village does a tasty breakfast. Address: 7 High Street, Wroughton, Wiltshire, SN4 9JX. We will have a laptop set up in the quiet sofa room at Legge House with pictures of Zachary if you would like to see them. The pictures will also be added to Zachary's Memorial Photo Gallery in due course. If you are a keen baker and would like to make some cakes, biscuits etc for us all to enjoy as part of the light buffet after the funeral that would be great. Any baked goods should be delivered to Legge House in sufficient time before the service please. Burial Zachary’s Burial is on Wednesday 8th May 2013 at 11am at Woodwells Cemetery conducted by Coralie McCluskey (family friend who also undertook Grandma’s funeral service). Address: Buncefield Lane, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, HP2 7HY. After the burial we will go to a local pub where people can buy drinks plus food if wished. Address: The Crabtree, 2 Leverstock Green Road, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, HP2 4HG. Information Please see above regarding dress code, flowers and below regarding donations. Toilets are available in the cemetery. Donations We have set up an online Always Loved, Never Forgotten Fund to allow us now and in the future to raise money in Zachary’s name. We have decided any money raised will go to Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity (more commonly just known as Sands). http://www.uk-sands.org/home.html Zachary’s unique supporter ID number is 0043345. Sands is a national charity, established by bereaved parents, with three core aims: • Support anyone affected by the death of a baby; • To work in partnership with health professionals to improve the quality of care and services offered to bereaved families; and • To promote research and changes in practice that could help to reduce the loss of babies' lives As well as national support there are local groups – of which Swindon Sands http://www.swindonsands.org/ has had relevance to us to date (they provided Zachary’s memory box and accessories for it and we have attended our first local group support meeting) and we envisage that West Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire Sands http://www.westhertsbuckssands.org.uk/ will also provide us with support in the future. We have decided to split Zachary’s Always Loved, Never Forgotten Fund 30% to the UK Sands head office, 35% to Swindon Sands and 35% to West Herts and Bucks Sands. Due to the way gift aid is administrated by the government it cannot be given to local groups. This means for every gift aided pound 55p will go to UK Sands, 35p to Swindon Sands and 35p to West Herts and Bucks Sands. There will be a box in the church for donations which will then be moved into Legge House. Donations after the burial should be passed to Tom Randall please. If you are a UK taxpayer, please complete a gift aid form to accompany your cheque or cash. Gift aid forms will be available by the donation box on the Tuesday and Tom will have some on the Wednesday. Please do not feel you have to donate – we are aware many have already generously donated directly to Sands or to sponsored events or may wish to remember Zachary in other ways. Online donations to the fund can be made at: http://www.justgiving.com/Katie-Randall-Stratton These will then be linked to the Always Loved, Never Forgotten Fund. We can also link sponsored events now and in the future as ‘offline donations’ (including cousin Steve Randall’s 100 mile bike ride undertaken on Sunday 21st April 2013 and footie friend Lee Bryant’s half marathon to come on Sunday 9th June 2013). Cheques should be made payable to ‘Sands’ and have Zachary Randall-Stratton and his unique supporter ID number 0043345 written on the back please. Cash should ideally be in an envelope with a completed gift aid form please. Any miscellaneous cash will be collated and sent by us in with a combined gift aid form. Donations already made directly to Sands can be referenced in Zachary’s fund if you let us know of the following information please: donation amount, date donation was sent, and how the donation was made (if it was an online donation made through the main justgiving page Sands need the unique donation reference number included on the confirmation email you received). Alternatively you can contact Sands on 0845 6520 448 or fundraising@uk-sands.org to advise quoting Zachary Randall-Stratton and his unique supporter ID number 0043345. How can you help? We have been asked by lots of people how they can help. Here are a few suggestions: • Please keep doing what you are doing! All the texts, calls, emails, Facebook messages, cards, gifts, kind gestures, prayers, hugs, tears, church services in Zachary's name, sponsored bike ride already undertaken and run to come, and condolences via family and friends we have received has been overwhelming. We may not have had the energy to acknowledge (it is lovely to see and speak to people but very tiring) but please know that each and every one in its own way has given us great comfort, knowing there are kind people in the world and you are thinking of us, and helped us get as far as we have. While it is the mummy who physically goes through labour please remember we are both grieving for our son Zachary. • The Sands website has a really useful article for family and friends if you wanted to read it: http://www.uk-sands.org/support/for-family-and-friends.html • There are various ways to support Sands in the future should you wish: http://www.uk-sands.org/get-involved/other-ways-to-support-us.html (please let us know if you do support Sands in any way). • We particularly like the Stamps for Sands: http://www.uk-sands.org/get-involved/other-ways-to-support-us/save-your-postage-stamps.html Stamps can be passed to us or sent directly to: Stamps for Sands, 10 Bellamy Avenue, Hartcliffe, Bristol, BS13 0HW. The website has a poster to download if your local school, workplace, post office or group would be willing to collect stamps too. • If there is an opportunity at your school or workplace to suggest a charity to support, please consider suggesting Sands (and please let us know). • There is a Sands Forget-me-not Baby Memorial Garden Gadebridge Park Spring Tidy-up on Sunday 19th May 2013 from 2.30-4.30pm and volunteers are welcomed. We intend to have a plaque in Zachary’s memory in the garden: http://www.westhertsbuckssands.org.uk/memorialgarden.html • Sign the following petition: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/stop-the-stillbirth-scandal-join-grazia-and-sands-cam.html
